I've been told by emergency service types that kicking through a wall is usually possible, but even with the leak in the ceiling I would think it difficult to kick a hole through it. He'd have to be laying on his back on the beam — it would be pretty easy to lose his balance and fall into the welcoming arms of the zombie horde below. If he had a crowbar/prybar or even a hammer in his pack, I could see that working.
